Karen Saunders

Karen Saunders BSc(Hons) MCSP

Karen graduated from Salford University in 1998 with a BSc(Hons) degree in Physiotherapy. Initially she worked as a Junior at Manchester Royal Infirmary and started to train as a Bobath physiotherapist under the guidance of Linzi Meadows on the Neurological Outreach Team.

This inspired her to specialise in neurological physiotherapy and so in 2001, she moved to Hope Hospital, Salford to work as a Senior Neurotherapist.

She worked as lead clinician on the Acute Neurology Unit (Regional Specialist Centre for the NW) for 3 years and gained further experience of treating a wide variety of neurological conditions. She developed the neurophysiotherapy service to provide a very high standard of clinical care and contributed widely to the education of both students and staff, including senior neurology doctors.

She has completed the Basic Bobath Course, and an Advanced Bobath Course focused on the Assessment and Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients.

In addition, she is involved in leading the Special Interest Group for Multiple Sclerosis that aims to encourage and promote best practise in the care of these patients in line with the NICE Government guidelines.

She continues to maintain strong links with the Neurology Consultants based at Hope with a view to sharing future collaborative projects.

She joined the team at the Manchester Neurotherapy Centre in May 2005, and feels very lucky to be part of an expert team who deliver the highest standard of clinical skills possible in an extremely friendly and comfortable environment.
