My name is Ricardo Ferreira, 50 years old, I am portuguese and I live in Setúbal – Portugal.
Two years ago (12th May 2006) I had a stroke. It was a very severe stroke in the basilar artery.
I had several injuries: A tracheostomy (during one month and a half); a PEG, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, to eat (during three months); hemifacial paralysis; my mouth doesn't open; hemiplegia; ataxia; problems with movement, balance, vision, hearing.
After the hospital I started my rehabilitation. I have treatment everyday.
In February 2008, my therapist led me to an Advanced Bobath Course in Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão - Portugal. Lynne Fletcher and Linzi Meadows were the teachers.
In that course Lynne and Linzi treated me two days and the results were fantastic. So, me and my wife, we decided to go to Manchester Neurotherapy Centre.
We were in Manchester five weeks: 26th July to 30th August 2008. It was very, very good. I was treated mostly by Lynne and Linzi but Campbell, Alison, Karen and Charlotte treated me too. After their treatments my face is more symmetrical, my mouth opens a little bit more, my shoulders are more aligned, my left arm is more active, my left leg is stronger, my left foot is more aligned and my posture is much better. Consequently I can walk better. I walk with a therapist or my wife on my left side and a stick in my right hand. Many thanks to Lynne, Linzi and their team.
In the last week of treatment, my therapist, who treat me in Setúbal – Portugal, went to Manchester. It was fantastic because she saw my treatments and she can continue in Portugal. I'm grateful to her.
