Neurological Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Advanced Bobath Tutors & Therapists

Paula (Stroke)

When I started coming to the Manchester Neurotherapy Centre four years ago I hadn’t had any physiotherapy for 3 years so although I was fully mobile lots of things needed "working on".

I began by attending weekly sessions and these went so well that I gradually began to improve, which increased my confidence. Even taxi drivers who dropped me off and picked me up commented on the progress I'd made, which made me feel really good.

Eventually I even felt able to join a small gym with power assisted machines, which is run by a local Brain and Spine Injury Charity. After going there for about a year my physiotherapist said she felt that I was ready to join a normal gym again, which had been one of my goals. To get to the gym I have to get 2 buses and now that I am so much stronger and my balance has improved, I am able to do this without feeling unsafe.

I have now been going to the gym for about 6 months and attend yoga and Tai Chi classes.

My latest achievement was completing a tandem parachute jump, which was truly amazing. I raised money for the BASIC organisation.

As everything is going so well my physiotherapist has recently suggested that I cut my sessions down from four a month to two.

I just feel so much better overall. I am much stronger and my balance is a lot better, which gives me more confidence when I am out. I also move more fluently and my walking has really improved.
