Neurological Teaching CentrePamela (Back Injury)
Approximately 4 years ago, in my mid-fifties, I had a bad fall which resulted in a back injury that left me with restricted movement and prone to painful muscle spasm. The situation progressively deteriorated further and at my lowest point I was in constant pain, developed a limp and could barely lift my left leg more than 2" off the ground. Getting in and out of the car, climbing the stairs and stepping over our doorstep at home became monumental tasks. I stopped driving as a result and felt thoroughly depressed with the whole situation.
A year of hospital visits for neurological examinations, X-rays, CAT-Scans and tests, including lumbar puncture and nerve testing resulted in my Neurological Consultant concluding that, although the tests had ruled out any real "nasties" being the cause, he could no longer offer any solutions, other than managing the pain and "seeing how it goes, in the future". He did however, suggest I might try to find a neuro physiotherapist to help with my situation. After searching the web, I was delighted to find The Manchester Neurotherapy Centre Ltd. only four miles from my home in north-west Manchester.
After only my second visit/workout, I returned home, to find I could lift my left leg almost as high as the right leg, negotiating the doorstep and climbing the stairs no longer presented a problem and getting in and out of the car became much easier. Within a week I was driving again. I genuinely believed a miracle had happened. That day was almost 2 years ago and yes I still have a "service" at MNC every 6 months or so and I'm not claiming to be 100% right, but I would estimate that I've improved from a deteriorating 40% rate to around 75%-80% normal. I feel that I've been given my life back, in terms of the things I can now do and enjoy.
My thanks go especially to Linzi Meadows and all the team at MNC.
